Indigenous Leadership and Community Impact Award

The number of awards available each year varies. Recipients must, at the time of selection:

  • be currently enrolled full-time in level 1 of any program at Fanshawe College in the Fall term
  • self-identify as First Nation, Non-Status First Nation, Métis, and/or Inuit* (Proof of identification required. For the First Nations students with Indian Status, a government document will be required. For Metis students, a Metis Nation of Ontario card will be required. For First Nation non-status students, proof of lineage to a First Nation individual with Indian Status will be required. For Inuit students, proof of registration will be required.)
  • submit a statement which answers the following:

o How you identify as an Indigenous person, your family and communities you are a part of.

o How being a recipient of the award will support your growth as an individual as well as that of your family.

o How being a recipient of the award will help you to support future Indigenous students and/or provide future opportunities to have a positive impact on your community or nation.

Disbursements will be made each academic term for the first year of the recipient’s program provided they meet the following criteria:

  • participate in a series of activities, workshops and learning opportunities that support cultural continuity and help to build an Indigenous learning community at Fanshawe College.
  • have zero or one unsatisfactory midterm course standings, OR be in ‘Good Standing’ or ‘Conditional Continuation.’
