In Memory of Rob Chilvers
The Chilvers Big Picture Award was established by Graphic Design faculty and College friends in tribute to Rob’s extraordinary devotion to students, faculty and the College that he loved during the years 1996-2013. As a former faculty member and coordinator in the Graphic Design program, Chilvers influenced and mentored scores of Fanshawe grads, many of whom have become successful experts in the field of graphic design.
A brilliant artist and designer with a passion for all things creative and unique, Rob was instrumental in building a renowned Graphic Design Program based on a vision for excellence. Always ready to see the “big picture” and to embrace all of its wonderful possibilities, Rob was simply the best at encouraging students to achieve their best, no matter what the path. Sadly Rob passed away in 2013.
Impact
The Chilvers Big Picture Award is awarded to a student who has completed level four of Fanshawe’s Graphic Design program and demonstrates extensive knowledge of the four cornerstones of Graphic Design as it relates to mass communication and society in general: typography, design, illustration and photography. Attention to concise visual communication along with an inquisitive mind, innovative ideas and the ability to be a forward thinker are also important considerations.
