In Memory of Lina Solh

A bright light, full of compassion, a warrior for the poor and so full of dignity.

Lina was born with spina bifida, a condition that over time would render her wheelchair-bound. Consequently, her greatest challenge was mobility.

In her country of origin, services were limited for people with disabilities so her father would carry her on his back from class to class. Knowing that Lina loved to learn and had desires and goals to achieve, her parents and two brothers immigrated to Canada so that Lina had full access to necessary services ensuring her success. Soon after Lina’s arrival, she immersed herself in the community, volunteering at numerous places and quickly enrolled in college and university. She was unstoppable!

In total, Lina earned a Human Resources Professional certificate, Social Service Worker diploma and General Arts and Science certificate, all from Fanshawe College. She also completed courses at Western University as she was working her way toward her Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work.

Lina’s focus became that of a champion for the less fortunate and marginalized in the London community.

Impact

Lina’s colleagues from the London Employment Help Centre have established this award to encourage and support Fanshawe students with a physical disability who are progressing successfully towards a college diploma or an applied degree in any field.
