In Memory of Kathryn Plankar (Rivers)

In 2021, Intruent, Inc. established The Kathryn Plankar (Rivers) Memorial Award in honour of their late colleague and friend, Kathryn Plankar.

Kate excelled in the arts all of her life and developed her incredible gifts at Fanshawe College before going to work in her field as a Graphic Designer. Kate’s exceptional artistry, coupled with her keen eye for visually telling creative stories, led her to be the design visionary for hundreds of companies and brands across Canada. One would not know it, but there are countless businesses from coast-to-coast whose identities were developed on Kate’s sketchbook and then brought to life on her screen.

Kate worked in the design industry for over 10 years before her sudden passing at the age of 33.

Kate was the cherished wife of Michael Plankar and loving mother of Patrick and Emily. The children were Katie’s pride and joy, taking thousands of photos with them and, yet, never feeling as though she had enough.

Family was everything to Kate, whether that was going for walks with the kids, and her four-legged buddies Chevie the dog and Kara the cat, special date nights with Mike, or the family vacations in Northern Ontario, times together were always precious and treasured.

Kate lives on as an example of a human being we at Intruent all strive to emulate as she was – and continues to be in our hearts – an incredible teammate, friend, daughter, sister, wife, and mother.

Impact

The Kathryn Plankar (Rivers) Memorial Award hopes to impact the lives of students who exhibit the following characteristics, just as Kate impacted everyone around her with similar traits: a full-time student at Fanshawe College who has successfully completed year two in the Graphic Design program, has achieved a cumulative Grade Point Average of at least 3.0., demonstrates a wealth of creativity and artistic vision, and exhibits leadership and care when interacting with others.
