In Memory of Bill Watson

In Memory of Bill Watson

Bill was a Fanshawe College staff member from July 1968 to August 1993. During this time, he was Chair of the Social Sciences and Humanities division as well as Dean of Applied Arts.

His easygoing manner, ability to see the light side of everything, along with his quick wit and genuine love of being in the spotlight led him to be Master of Ceremonies at numerous College functions. As an administrator, he led by example, always examining contentious issues from all points of view. He enriched the lives of many through the retelling, with photos and slides, of trips to far-off places. In the words of a colleague, Bill was an “enabler”, always encouraging and stimulating those who reported to him to grow to their fullest potential.

Impact

Established in 2004, the Bill Watson Memorial Recreation and Leisure Services Graduate Award recognizes a full-time student who demonstrates leadership skills and significant personal growth through the completion of the Recreation and Leisure Services program. The award is a wonderful way to remember Bill while supporting students as they begin their careers.
