Before teaching, Gina built a successful career in radio and television, working in Kitchener, Hamilton, Cambridge, Wingham, and St. Catharines. Murrow Award for Best Radio Newscast.

Impact

Gina Lorentz created the Digital Journalism Award to recognize the creative and compelling multimedia stories her students were producing. Fanshawe’s Journalism program added online journalism to its curriculum and evaluations in 2013 to respond to the digital first movement in newsrooms.

Gina was the professor responsible for creating curriculum and teaching multiplatform journalism in a variety of courses. This was augmented with the introduction of an industry standard website platform for the campus radio station(s) called SoCast. Courses were added and evolved. Students in all levels learn digital journalism in combination with broadcast storytelling to multiplatform their multimedia news content. The College’s Journalism-Broadcast program was renamed Journalism-Multimedia in 2024.
