Gerhard Gedies

Gerhard Gedies

Gerhard Gedies began teaching motive power technology in 1964, before the College was even named Fanshawe.

Over the ensuing 31 years, he rose through the ranks to serve as the Acting Dean of Technology for two years and as the Fanshawe’s apprenticeship coordinator for more than two decades.

In 1971, he spearheaded the launch of the two-year Motive Power Technician programs, which were the first of their kind in Ontario. Gerhard established two awards, one of which honours the sudden passing of his son, Scott.

Impact

The Scott Gedies Memorial Award is presented to a full-time student who demonstrates a high degree of perseverance, dedication, enthusiasm and tolerance while completing first year of either Fanshawe’s Motive Power Technician (Automotive) or Motive Power Technician (Diesel) program.

The G. W. Gedies Leadership Awards recognize graduating Motive Power students who show commitment, cooperation, teamwork, integrity, enthusiasm for life-long learning and leadership.
